Driving the energy transition
LBC is developing a state-of-the-art import terminal at its Vlissingen site in North Sea Port, enabling large-scale imports of green ammonia and hydrogen and supporting Europe’s transition to a climate-neutral and energy-independent future. By building the infrastructure needed to receive, store, and convert these energy carriers, LBC aims to establish Vlissingen as a key gateway for sustainable energy flows into Northwest Europe.
LBC Vlissingen awarded €6.6 million subsidy for sustainable terminal development
LBC Vlissingen has been awarded a €6.6 million subsidy for the further development of its terminal in Zeeland. This investment marks an important step in the transition towards future-proof and sustainable port infrastructure.
The project encompasses the development of a terminal for the storage and transshipment of new energy products, the implementation of a digital twin to simulate and monitor terminal operations, and the creation of new jobs around this innovative facility. In doing so, LBC Vlissingen is advancing both technological progress and the strengthening of the regional labour market.
The subsidy is provided through the OPZuid programme and is co-financed by the European Union through the Just Transition Fund (JTF). The JTF supports regions in their transition towards a sustainable, climate-neutral economy and promotes projects that foster innovation, sustainable infrastructure and employment.

LBC Vlissingen heeft €6,6 miljoen subsidie toegekend gekregen voor de verdere ontwikkeling van haar terminal in Zeeland. Deze investering vormt een belangrijke stap in de transitie naar een toekomstbestendige en duurzame haveninfrastructuur.
Het project omvat de ontwikkeling van een terminal voor de op- en overslag van new energy-producten, de implementatie van een digitale twin voor simulatie en monitoring van terminaloperaties, en het creëren van nieuwe arbeidsplaatsen rond deze innovatieve faciliteit. Daarmee zet LBC Vlissingen stevig in op zowel technologische vooruitgang als versterking van de regionale arbeidsmarkt.
De subsidie wordt verstrekt via het OPZuid-programma en wordt medegefinancierd door de Europese Unie vanuit het Just Transition Fund (JTF). Het JTF ondersteunt regio’s bij de overgang naar een duurzame, klimaatneutrale economie en stimuleert projecten die innovatie, duurzame infrastructuur en werkgelegenheid bevorderen.
